Exporting Route Data in CSV/TXT Format from Furuno ECDIS
1. Overview
Furuno ECDIS units can export route data in multiple formats. Besides the international standard RTZ format, CSV and TXT formats are also available. However, it's important to note that the specifications for these CSV/TXT formats are not officially published by Furuno and may differ between ECDIS models.
2. CSV Format Features
- It is a comma-separated value format.
- It offers higher human readability compared to the XML-based RTZ format.
- Files can be easily viewed and edited using common spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel).
- It typically contains information such as waypoint names, latitude, and longitude.
- Latitude/Longitude are usually represented in decimal degrees.
3. TXT Format Features
- Tabs seem to be used as delimiters.
- While it can be human-readable in some cases, its structure is non-standard, which can make automated processing more cumbersome compared to the CSV format.
- Data fields are fixed-width.
- Waypoint names are limited to 8 half-width characters (e.g., ASCII). Consequently, names longer than 8 characters entered in the ECDIS may be truncated during export.
4. Important Notes
- Furuno has not released official specifications for their CSV/TXT export formats.
- The structure must typically be inferred by analyzing actual exported files.
- The column order and the specific content might vary depending on the ECDIS model or software version.
